Badges and Buckets

Law enforcement officers, Special Olympics Hawaiʻi athletes, volunteers, and community supporters came together once again for Badges & Buckets, showing the power of communities united in support of inclusion.

Formerly known as Cop on Top, Badges & Buckets is one of Special Olympics Hawaiʻi’s largest annual community events and a longstanding tradition of the Law Enforcement Torch Run. Throughout the event, off-duty law enforcement officers took to scaffolds and rooftops while fellow officers, athletes, and volunteers greeted shoppers, collected donations, and shared the mission of Special Olympics Hawaiʻi.

Thanks to the generosity of communities across the state, more than $225,000.00 was raised in support of Special Olympics Hawaiʻi athletes!

But Badges & Buckets is about more than what goes into the buckets. It’s about the connections made between our athletes, law enforcement partners, and the communities they serve. From officers volunteering their time to families stopping by to say aloha, each interaction helps build awareness, celebrate abilities, and create a more inclusive Hawaiʻi.

Among the highlights was a visit from Honolulu Police Department Chief David Lazar, who stopped by the Waimalu Plaza Shopping Center location on Oʻahu to spend time with participating officers, athletes, and volunteers.

The support received through Badges & Buckets helps Special Olympics Hawaiʻi continue providing year-round sports training, athletic competitions, health programs, and opportunities for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, all at no cost to athletes or their families.

Mahalo to our law enforcement partners, participating businesses, event partners, athletes, volunteers, and everyone who stopped by to show their support! Your dedication and generosity continue to make Badges & Buckets a meaningful tradition for communities throughout Hawaiʻi.

Together, we’re building stronger communities and creating more opportunities for Special Olympics Hawaiʻi athletes to shine.
