Ways to Give
For a Special Olympics athlete, the finish line is just the beginning. Through sports, athletes learn motivation, discipline, and hard work. They build confidence and skills to succeed in sports and in life.
How Your Gift Helps
Just think what that means for someone like Renee. While attending school, Renee often felt alone, misunderstood, and left out though she tried to “fit in.”
Renee is very active in Special Olympics Hawai`i programming- she is a Global Messenger, a program for athletes to develop public speaking skills, the athlete representative on the Special Olympics Hawai`i Board of Representatives, and competes in multiple sports each year. Renee said, “Special Olympics has opened a whole new world for someone who has always been on the sidelines of life. Now, I get to be in the action, be included and be a part of something.”
Special Olympics Hawai`i transforms lives like Renee’s every day. But for every athlete that participates, there are 48 more people with intellectual disabilities whom we have not yet reached. We want to give more people a chance to “fit in,” succeed, to hear cheers, to experience joy.
