Young Athletes Programs

Special Olympics Hawai'i offers an inclusionary program for 2-7 year old special education and regular education children called Young Athletes Program.  The primary program on Oahu is held at Kaiser High School cafeteria 1 time per month.  Click here for the years calendar. Our East Hawaii Area program also provides a Young Athletes Play Day event two times per year. Contact our East Hawaii Area Director for more information on their activities.

Special Olympics Hawai'i also provides two very large Young Athletes events.  One in June during our State Summer Games and one in December to celebrate our successful year.  To register for the next large Young Athletes event click here to get the registration form.  Click here for the next events information flyer.

In order to register for the monthly Young Athletes program a very simple
registration form is required. Once you have completed the registration form you can bring it with you to your first Young Athletes activity or fax it to (808) 943-8814.

6 and 7 year old special education students can be a part of our
Future Stars program.  Our Future Stars train in three different seasons in the sports of track and field, soccer, and basketball with their Special Olympics team.  They are then able to compete with other Future Star athletes at our Area and State competitions.  When our Future Stars turn eight years of age, they can train and compete in any of the nine sports that are offered by Special Olympics Hawaii.  In order to become an official athlete with Future Stars our regular Medical Application form must be completed and signed by a physician as well as the Athlete Consent form must be completed and signed by the parent/guardian.

Special Olympics Hawaii also provides our Young Athletes curriculum to Special Education teachers within the school setting.  If you are interested in becoming a Young Athletes classroom and would like to utilize the Special Olympics Young Athletes curriculum, please contact Nip Ho at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
